| Wow...it's been almost a month since I've updated this thing....crazy ish...lot's have happened...lots of firsts for me...Let's see where do I begin...ahhh the Homecoming Week . . . very stressful for me b/c as a first year supervisor I wanted to show my boss that I can be relied on and so I spent sleepless nights with the help of residents and RAs working on Deck the Hall...although it was a stressful experience, I really enjoyed it...i got to know some of the residents and I was able to spend some time with the RAs...We got 2nd place out of 7 Residence Halls . . . My other first...I'm experiencing Fall for the very first time...it is so beautiful to see the season change; the trees are just amazing as the leaves change colors to bright red, orange, and yellow... it is so beautiful over here . . .never really had a true fall season in Cali... I also went to my first conference as a new professional in the field of student affairs...it was hosted by Purdue Univ. and it was a great experience not only because of the things i learned but I saw my friend Casscia....she's so awesome...we had the opportunity to have lunch together and catch up on things....hmmmmm what else.... I'm actually adjusting well I think... before i tried to play it off that it wasn't a big deal and wouldn't be a tough transition but it was a big deal and it is challenging . . . when you don't have the support that you're used to at home and you don't see your friends that can just take all your worries away and have a good time . . . it's tough . . . but I've found someone that I can talk to talk to...it's weird b/c I can tell this person anything and I've only known her for about 3 months....Since I don't tell everyone what's going on with me I'm glad that I feel comfortable enough to confide in her....Oh yeah...two other firsts...I've experienced my first taste of custard and butter burger...yeah weird names huh...it's a midwest thang i suppose...custard is like this really really really rich and smooth ice cream...it's really good but oh my the calories is up the roof....and a butter burger is just a burger where they fry/toast the buns in butter...flavorful but then again very "sinful...sinfully delicious" as one of my CSP buddies, Joe, would call it...2nd weekend in a row that i'm duty...kinda sux but oh well...part of the job... hopefully i'll get to do something exciting next weekend....oh yeah check this website out.... http://www.globalyouthconnect.org/countries/cambodia/index.html I'm applying to go to this program this summer . . . wish me luck and pray for me that I get in . . . and if you don't know about the history of Cambodia, that link will give you a really great summary . . . read it if you have time.... Well I guess that's all for now . . . I miss everyone back home but I am having a great experience here at the same time . . . | | |
| I just finished chatting with my friend Mark....I used to go to undergrad with him at UC Riverside and we were RAs together; anyway, he made me smile when he said this >>> Kramnation: see ya later sharona jolie <<< But seriously though...I don't know how my fascination with her started...I really admire her humanitarian side a lot and someday I hope that I can help out others in need.....I know sounds sappy huh...but seriously I do want to do that....So this weekend...saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow with Jacob, one of my co-workers here in housing....it was a good movie and you should see it
I miss all the peeps in Cali but I don't think I'm homesick...I don't know....weird stuff... I'm excited to go back home for Thanksgiving break and see everyone again...I can't wait....a month and a half left...until then I am enjoying my time here in Thompson and all the other Grads in my program are just awesome...we get along well and we actually do stuff together woooooo hooooooo for that . . . | | |
| So it's the fourth week of the semester Dang...I feel like we just moved in yesterday...time flies by so fast but I'm enjoying my experience so far. I'm getting to know my RAs a little bit more and I hope that we will continue to build our relationship as the year progresses. Each and every one of them is unique and special and I am very fortunate to have such a great group of RAs that I can learn from....My classes are going great; struggling with the readings - not with the material but just keeping up with the immense amount of material...did well on my first paper though I'm hoping to get my routine down packed by next week so that I feel less overwhelmed with all the things going on right now....I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooo suppppppppppppppppeerrrrrrr excited about homecoming because i have never experienced anything like it before...I'm advising the Deck the Hall committee and the Spirit committee...I'm really excited about the Deck the Hall because for all you UCR peeps, it's like a smaller scale Monte Carlo where we just decorate the lobby all out...our theme this year is "Let's Turn Up the Heat!! Old School Style" If you guys have ideas...hit me up
Hmmm so what else...just random thoughts...have you ever thought what defines a relationship? We have so many terms for it and so many non-terms that it gets confusing....there's the oh we're just talking...not dating but talking and the occassional make-out session...then there's oh, we're dating but not together but we do (fill in the blank)....then there's oh, we just have sex but we're not together....then there's the we're seeing each other but there's no title but if you ask if they're exclusive and they say yes, but then again they're not together....I don't know about you but i'm starting to get a headache.... and i think it's about time for my bedtime....
